UWO student wins The Pitch competition
UW-Oshkosh student Daniel Salazar took home the first-place prize of $10,000 cash and $15,000 in in-kind services for Pack-Its. The product offers easy-dispensing disposable bags to do away with messes, such as soiled diapers or pet waste.
Participants pitched to judges from Nicolet National Bank, Gulfstream, gBETA, Winnow Fund and Winnebago Seed Fund at TitletownTech in Green Bay. In addition to UW-Oshkosh, student entrepreneurs represented Lawrence University, St. Norbert College, UW-Green Bay, Fox Valley Technical College and Moraine Park Technical College. The prize package was worth $50,000 in cash and in-kind services.
Top honors also went to:
- Hamza Ehsan, Lawrence University, EVSmart, second-place prize of $7,500 cash and $7,500 in in-kind services.
- Breena Hansen, St. Norbert College, Clean Comfort Food Delivery, third-place prize of $5,000 cash and $5,000 in in-kind.
The rest of the finalists included Hannah Jungwirth, Fox Valley Technical College, Kid Kingdom Inn; Heather Schroeder, FVTC, Level Up Mentoring; Patrick Rupprecht, Shae Stangl and Kristen Westlake, Moraine Park Technical College, Emergent Technologies; Evan Watzka, St. Norbert College, FuelSafe; Cameron Schneider, UW-Oshkosh, Rewire; Emma Liu and Katie Kitzinger, Lawrence University, Jetsetter’s Closet; Garriet Kanis and Wyatt Smet, UW-Green Bay, Bookbates; and Renee DeGrand, UW-Green Bay, Fervid Life.
The Fox Connection is a collaboration of academic institutions in Northeast Wisconsin to enhance entrepreneurial education and opportunity for area students. Local business leaders and representatives from four founding universities — Lawrence University, St. Norbert College, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Green Bay — started the initiatives. FVTC and Moraine Park joined in 2018.
